The Century War [COMMISSION]

Description

Here's another commission, this time from miner249er. He asked for a world where there's a hundred years' war in North America between French Canada and and Anglo-Spanish America, an Anglo-Russian dynastic union, and Richelieu expelling all non-Catholics in France to settlements in Canada. If you're interested in commissioning your own map, see this post
  • The PoD is Elizabeth I marrying Ivan IV of Russia. It's a marriage of convenience, and the two only met a handful of times, but it did produce an enduring Tudor dynasty that ruled over both England and Russia after the Rurikid dynasty started killing itself off. The union persists, while England and Russia maintain their own cultures and government. The parliamentary system was only recently introduced to Russia, as the Tudors preferred to rule as tsars and tsarinas from a distance and allowed the Russian nobility to run most things. The Russian nobility is not pleased with this usurpation of their power, and it is causing a lot of tension in the empire.
  • Cardinal Richelieu expelled all non-Catholics in France to Canada, which was more heavily established. The mostly-Protestant population did not take long to declare independence from France, which was more than happy to let the colony go because they kept asking for forces to defend themselves from raiders. New France was, and is, heavily Protestant, and is very conservative politically. To the south, the English and Spanish colonies declared independence as the United Provinces of Columbia, a bilingual state that is considerably more liberal than its northern neighbor. The current Century War was started in 1905, with the Columbians invading New France after yet another border war. This war continues, although heavy fighting is intermittent and years can go by without a shot being fired.
  • Much of Europe remains under absolute monarchies, with revolutionaries being exiled off in the colonies. France remains an absolute monarchy, as does Austria, the premier power on the continent. The big exception is the North German Confederation, a libertarian republic dominated by the Dutch. The Ottomans have moderated quite a bit, although that's mostly due to the fact that they are trying to keep their empire together by using a lighter touch.
  • South America is divided between the Lusophone Brazil and the formerly Dutch Niew-Holland. Both are rather liberal by TTL's standards, for example both allow women to vote.
  • Oda Nobunaga did not die in the Honnō-ji incident, and manages to unite Japan under his rule for a few years. However, after his death, fighting resumes., and Japan is eventually united under an isolationist shogunate.
  • Technology is rather behind, being closer to the OTL 1940s. It has a definite dieselpunk feel, with big being better. Cataphracts, TTL's tanks, are massive and lumber along like something out of Warhammer 40K. Aircraft remain propeller-driven, and are easily shot down by flak batteries. Nobody's ever thought of nuclear bombs, and nuclear theory in general is decades behind OTL's 1940s.

How did that state in OTL Bengal retain (limited) independence from the UKBR?
