Description

I was originally going to post this on President's Day, but it got delayed. While it shares the title with the Assassin's Creed 3 DLC, it has nothing to do with the story. A bit of a French-wank, but c'est la vie.

---

  • The PoD is the Constitutional Convention ending with no document all the states could agree on, leading to eventual rebellions as states bickered over who would pay for war debts and began taxing the people. The Continental Army, headed by George Washington, took control, and was offered a crown by the interim government. Having his faith in republican government shattered, Washington accepts the crown, becoming the first King of the Kingdom of America.
  • The British take advantage of the fighting, but this only expands violence into Canada. Quebec manages to form an independent republic, but New England falls under British control once again. Indeed, the New Englanders welcomed the British, perceiving Washington to be a worse tyrant than George III ever could be.
  • The French Revolutionary Wars are bloodier, and while Napoleon is cut down in battle before he can take control, the French succeed in seizing much of Western Europe for themselves. Eastern Europe unites with the British against them, a conflict that persists to the present day.
  • Louisiana broke away from France during the Revolution, with the aid of American republicans who were being persecuted by the American royalists. Louisiana is later taken over by the ambitious Aaron Burr, who proclaims himself emperor. Louisiana eventually becomes an American ally.
  • California and Texas break away with British and American aid, respectively.
  • The British lose India after a series of revolts in the 1850s and 1860s, greatly weakening the Empire. The British shift focus to containing France - which at the time was growing its influence in North Africa - by renewing its alliances with Russia, Prussia and Austria. Britain becomes a de facto diplomatic superpower.
  • France is the most powerful nation in the modern age, but the British alliance system overshadows it. Japan is a new, rising power that's now picking a fight with China.
