Still pretty busy, but I wanted to try a new thing. A lot of these scenarios just show the "modern" day of an alternate timeline, but why not show bits and pieces of history? This is for an upcoming Russia-centered scenario of mine.
With the end of the French Revolutionary War, Europe is in a shaky peace. The continent is split between east and west, autocracy and revolution. France stands as a mighty victor, though her influence is limited to the continent. She has destroyed the Catholic Church, becoming the first atheistic state in Europe, and she seeks to impose this anti-religious thoughts to the client states she was left with at the Peace of Rome.
On the other end of the continent, two former enemies have made amends. The Russians despise everything the French stand for, and are a force for conservatism, autocracy, and Christendom. The Russian struggle and ultimate victory during the Revolutionary War have transformed the Russian national character, injecting a sense of Russian national supremacy into the national consciousness. After all, Russia stands victorious while her central European rivals were saved by the skin of their teeth.
The Ottomans have joined the Russians to form the so-called "Eastern Juggernaut." The Ottomans are wary of Russian nationalism, as their Muslim brothers are not spared by Russian domestic propaganda, but with the French in Egypt and encouraging revolution in the Levant and the Balkans they'd rather make amends with the Russian bear. Ironically, the Ottomans are reforming their political systems and military based on what the French did, although all in the service of traditionalism.
Britain and Rome have pulled back from European affairs for now. Both were occasional participants in the Revolutionary Wars, and at different times fought on different sides. The British are focused on building their empire and are rapidly industrializing, and an explosion of scientific thought has swept Britain. Both France and Russia are taking notes, and the British make deals with both blocs to keep them out of another European war. The Romans were once supportive of the French Revolution, but soured on it once they saw it go too far. Their position as the peace brokers that ended the Revolutionary War means that they often have to sort out disputes between the two blocs. In Central Europe, two major neutral buffers exist to prevent another Franco-Russian war. Once-mighty Austria has been neutralized by treaty and ravaged by war, its monarchy turning inward and focusing on repairing itself. Prussia, too, has become neutral.
