Axis and Allies by RvBOMally Axis and Allies by RvBOMally
A world map for this old doodle of mine. Just a silly scenario, recite your MST3K mantra.

---

It is the year 2010, and the Axis and Allied powers enter yet another decade in stalemate. War between the two have seemed inevitable since the 1930s, but circumstances conspired to make it impossible. Neither side wanted to risk a conflict in the early years, and the development of nuclear weapons in the 1940s ensured that neither side could destroy the other without destroying themselves in the process. And so the Sitzkrieg continues.

Both sides are alliances of convenience, deals with more palatable devils. For the Axis Powers, this is especially true. Founded by two anti-communist powers, and the world's only communist power, the Axis Powers are held together by their mutual fear and hatred of the Allies. Years of alliance have mellowed the two sides out somewhat, with the Nazis and Japanese considering the Soviet Union to be a model for some of their programs, and the Soviets gradually replacing communism with a patriotic Slavic nationalism that resembles old Hitlerite Nazism more than 21st century Nazism itself.

The Germans are still recognized as the "leader" of the Axis, but the Soviets and Japanese always make a point that the Germans are by no means dominant. Still under the one-party rule of the NSDAP, the Nazis have mellowed out after the Jewish "threat" had been destroyed utterly within the Axis Powers' borders and Bolshevism was replaced with the much more palatable Stalinism. However, with the rise of the Kingdom of God, worship of the old Norse pantheon or atheism have become much more popular over the years in Germany, and the Catholics in particular find themselves a growing minority in the same position the Jews were in decades ago. With genetic engineering, anyone can be an Aryan, and indeed it is mandatory by law to engineer a child so that it meets the standards of the master race.

The Soviet Union is, for all intents and purposes, the Russian Empire with a fresh, red coat of paint. Stalin did not leave behind a dynasty, having despised his biological children, but after his death, Beria took control and furthered Stalin's vision of a new Soviet nation. This Soviet Union was built not on the ideas of Marx, and indeed all references to socialism have been removed from the Soviet Union apart from its name in 2009, but instead the ideas of the purity and strength of the Russian people and their unwavering resolve in resisting Western Allied influence. The Russian Orthodox Church has grown in power over the years, and with every passing year, more Orthodox iconography finds its way into Soviet propaganda.

The Japanese are fairly content with their empire, although they do fear the British and especially the Technate. The "Bushidoism" of Japan has become an official state ideology, venerating the God-Emperor of Japan and the warrior spirit of the Japanese, despite the fact that the Japanese have not fought a major war in nearly seventy years. Japan is the most distant of the Axis Powers, and they do admit some dislike for their German and Soviet allies, but they know that in this world, they cannot stand alone.

The Allies are a whole other kettle of fish. The products of very old and very new ideas, the Allies see the Axis as an obstacle for world domination. Like the Axis, the Allies don't like each other very much, but the accidents of history have a way of entrenching themselves when mutually assured destruction comes knocking.

The American Technate is the society of the future. Founded by Henry Ford's Technocracy Party after the Second American Civil War, the American Technate is built on the ideas of the rule of the experts, mass production, mass consumption, and mandatory happiness. The population, often restless in the newer states of South America, is kept in line with drugs, trash media, and, if need be, nerve gas. Natural birth is gradually being phased out in favor of test tube babies genetically engineered to serve various roles in castes. These men will never be unhappy, for their lives have been planned for them from cradle to grave. But as for now, natural born men hold lower positions in society than those engineered to rule, except of course for the ruling Technocrats, who have taken full advantage of life support technology to keep living even as they pass their hundredth birthdays. Brazil has adopted a similar model, and the only reason it's independent is because the Americans at the time wanted a release valve for restless locals.

The Kingdom of God is the society of the past. The Kingdom of God's origins can be found with Avril Masséna, a Belgian nun who became famous during the First World War for her seemingly miraculous healing powers. Helping French troops during the war, Masséna became a popular figure in the post-war Catholic world. She later became controversial for her claims that she was a reincarnation of Joan of Arc, and that God spoke to her directly. She gave several terrible, and specific, portents of the future, such as the rise of Nazism and the Second American Civil War. She preached that a day of reckoning was coming, and that it was every Catholic's duty to start a new crusade against the forces of Nazism. A mass movement grew around her, especially among veterans and the poor. By the 1930s, the government of France had fallen and had been replaced by Masséna's Kingdom of God. Italy and Spain followed after their civil wars, with British and German "volunteers" being humiliated by Masséna's forces.

The modern Kingdom of God is a Catholic theocracy, but the papacy in Brazil would dispute this. Masséna died childless and heirless, but her followers created a new church around her teachings. The Massénite Catholic Church uses the same Bible as the Roman Catholic Church, but canon is different. Masséna is considered a saint, and her teachings about the purging of sin from the individual and society are followed vehemently. Heresy is the root of all evil in the Kingdom of God, and when a heretic is found, they are subjected to all manner of horrific tortures just to extract a confession. Once they do, they are given the Church's Peace. The Islamic Heresy in Libya and Abyssinia continue, however, and Paris is unsure how to take care of this problem without resorting to "Germanic" solutions.

Apart from the madness stand the British and the South Africans. Both friendly with one another, though not having any formal alliance, the British and South Africans maintain democratic traditions in a world bereft of them. Although having problems with race in the past, both the British and South Africans have successfully liberalized to the point that Indians and blacks have the same civil rights as whites, even if white still hold more positions of wealth. However, this liberalization has gone a bit too far for some whites, who want a return to colonial rule where their votes counted the most. And some radicals think that the British and South African regimes are too corrupt, decadent and capitalist to continue, and thus agitate from the left. This has left both countries unstable, especially as their peripheries begin to agitate for full independence.

Is the American Technate a hedonistic society like in Brave New World? Or is it similar to the United Technocracies of Man in AAPA?

It's a mix of the two, but mostly the former.

Wow, a situation where the allies are just as bad as the axes. Very original. But why on earth is it called the British empire if it is being run by Australia and India or whatever.

Where did you get the blank map? I use one from wiki commons but this one seems most popular here.

Well, this isn't too good. The America Technate is pretty much how the cynics of today picture our future... minus the facism I suppose. But nothing like a little few random things to create a pretty dark state.

Another very nice work.

Can't wait to see your other three maps.

The American Technate is pretty much taken from Brave New World. What that says about our future is up to you to decide. :p

For the world dominated by governments, we have either 1984 for the fearful or Brave New World for the ecstatic.

Of course, 1984 is what happens when the state has too much power. For what happens when the state has too little power, we have Jennifer Government, where nonstate actors (namely corporations) abuse the bleep out of everything.

I can imagine it being done in the map as Microsoft merges with Pepsi-Co. Of course, the relatively good would be Coca-Cola XD

One of my upcoming scenarios, Pick Your Poison, has every ideology getting its own state (or state-equivalent, because anarchists show up). They are all dystopias. :)

Even the Native American places? Especially the Scientologists?

Though this would put Gnosticism in an interesting twist; all this was the cause of the Demiurge.

Ideologies, not religions. Theocracy will get one state, although other states will have religious bents.

Really interesting map. Overall, I really like the concept of both alliances being composed of members that really hate each other, but are only together because they hate the other alliance more.

I actually had to rethink what the Allies were up to, since all I could remember from my original idea was "technocratic Americans and theocratic French/Italians."

Ah. So now we ended up with this clusterfuck of a world.

If the Nation Games section of the Alternate History forums didn't have such an unstable community, I'd totally be game for a nation game there set in one of your scenarios.

I always thought a map game involving ISOTs of my scenarios into OTL would be interesting. If the world thought it had problems before....

Thank you. It will have to wait, unfortunately. Right now, I don't have the proper tools for map-making, and that preview alone took an inordinate amount of time. But I do have three other maps ready to go. :)
