This is my second America Aeterna scenario. It isn't a continuation of the first, but rather a totally new scenario. Rather than having America parallel the late Roman Republic, America here parallels the late Roman Empire.

Sometime in the 2020s, America plunges into another civil war. This period of turmoil lasts for ten years, allowing Russia to become dominant and leaving America crippled. Eventually, the situation stabilizes, but the country remained divided. For administrative purposes, the country was divided in two, with a second capital being placed in San Francisco, with two presidents. Eventually, a communist president was elected, who stopped the persecution of communists and turned the United States into a communist state, even forming the Supreme Soviet in Washington. Communism spreads throughout the world, although there is a major split between the branches in western and eastern America, leading to the formation of a separate Communist Party to govern the West.
The eastern part of the country is eventually flooded by migrants from Latin America, thanks to a renewed rise in drug violence. Likewise, the collapse of Middle Eastern and North African states further open the floodgates to migrants in Europe. The eastern part of the US and the European states can't handle it, and they collapse. The migrants do adopt communism and Western culture, mixing it with their own and forming their own socialist republics. These become de facto feudal states, with "party leaders" ruling collective farms filled with de facto serfs. The breakdown of infrastructure and the economy leads to technological stagnation. An atomic war between Russia and China, and India and Pakistan, does not help matters.
The Syndic ideology, which is a form of "technological socialism," arises in Argentina. The Syndics believe that true communism is only possible with machine leadership, and thus have placed control of their countries under that of advanced supercomputers. It takes over the continent by storm, and while the offensive in North America is stopped at Tejas, the Syndics succeed in conquering nuclear-devastated Russia and Europe. The Global Syndicate eventually breaks down, but the Syndic ideology remains. Syndic and Communism become sworn enemies, fighting several "Patriotic Wars" against one another.
The Technate of Great America claims the mantle of being the new American empire, despite originating from South America and following a totally alien ideology. They are perhaps the most powerful state on Earth, capable of launching invasions at any point on Earth.
The Supreme Soviet and the governments of the various American republics compete with each other for power, with their power waxing and waning relative to one another. At times, there have been major schisms in the Supreme Soviet over the finer points of ideology and who should be General Secretary of the Supreme Soviet. Wars have been fought over these issues, the Supreme Soviet itself raising armies to fight on the General Secretary's behalf. The People's Republic of Washington is under the total control of the Supreme Soviet, and recently has become a major patron of the arts throughout the Eastern Seaboard.
The Eastern Seaboard is the site of a renewal in art and culture, looking back on the glory that was America. Scholars fleeing San Francisco with records of old America are helping to revive interest in the "good old days" when America ruled from sea to shining sea. The region is dominated by Niyourk, a merchant republic.
The United States of America lives on in San Francisco, although its days are numbered. The Syndics of Great America are preparing a great invasion, one that will bring an end to the United States once and for all.
Karolinya, Mysalabma, and Flohrydya compete with one another over dominance of the Atlantic South. The Great Purges sweep these states, looking for Syndics and counterrevolutionaries.
The Republic of Tejas is perhaps the single strongest American state, and is expanding its influence. This influence has put it in direct conflict with the Supreme Soviet, and it is yet to be seen how this conflict will play out.
The Socialist Federation of America was intended to be a restoration of the United States among the Hispanicized states of the center of the continent. Once a powerful challenger to the Supreme Soviet's authority, it slowly degraded in power, the President of the SFA being a powerless figurehead, with all of the various "governors" of the SFA's member states having all of the power.
Alyeska and Kanada remained far from the light of the Worker's Revolution, raiding the "reds" from their massive ships. Eventually, they were communized, and have become far more peaceful.
The Republic of Yapon was once the absolute periphery of the American empire, and now it is engaged with its own attempt to create an empire that will rule the waves.
The ancient continent of Europe, once the heart of human civilization, has been changed through the various conquests. Nobody speaks the old European languages anymore, instead they speak the manufactured tongue of the Syndics.
The various cartels that caused the mass migrations of the early 21st century established themselves in the southwestern United States. The Zetanians are the most successful, although there are many others scattered around the Southwest.
From the ancient land of Egypt, the Empire of Mysir rises in the 2900s and conquers almost the entire planet through the use of armored and air warfare unseen since the fall of the American empire. They do not conquer East Asia and North America. Mysir could have conquered the entire planet, but the Great Pharaoh died before that could happen. Now their rule over Africa is crumbling, with the princes of Setefrika challenging them.
Rosya is under the control of a Mysirian dynasty, one that succeeded in conquering all of the former Russian lands. Rosya is no longer the rival to the North Americans it once was, focusing instead on fighting the Technate of Great America.
East Asia and the Indian subcontinent are minding their own business, content to fighting one another and the expanding Syndic empire of Nusontra.
The world has more or less stagnated technologically in the past thousand years, although things like orbital capabilities have been gone and have only been rediscovered recently. Nuclear weapons are taboo, given the Atomic Wars. The world deindustrialized massively during the mid-21st century, with industry slowly returning.
